About This Project
Last updated: October 2026
The Article 370 Knowledge Base is an independent, structured reference designed to consolidate dispersed legal, historical, and analytical material surrounding Article 370, its operational evolution, and its termination pathway in 2019.
Who Publishes This Site
Article370.com is an independent educational project. Its purpose is to help students, researchers and general readers understand the constitutional, legal and historical record on Article 370 using publicly available primary sources. It does not speak for any government, court, political party or advocacy group, and content on this site should not be read as the official position of any of them.
1. Mission
- Clarity: Present complex constitutional mechanisms in layered, navigable form.
- Contextualisation: Trace how incremental presidential orders and interpretive adaptations shaped integration trajectories.
- Neutral Documentation: Distinguish descriptive chronology from contested normative claims.
2. Scope Boundaries
Coverage focuses on constitutional text, institutional processes, residency/right transformations, jurisprudential reasoning, and comparative asymmetric federalism. It excludes advocacy positioning and classified/security intelligence narratives. The Current Affairs and timeline pages record dated, sourced developments; they are not real-time political commentary.
3. Method Overview
See Sources & Methodology for detailed source taxonomy, verification sequence, consolidation pipeline, and update cadence flow.
4. Editorial Principles
- Traceability: Core assertions map to identifiable public documents (constitutional provisions, gazette notifications, judgments).
- Version Awareness: Structural changes post–2019 are annotated rather than retrofitted into pre‑2019 narrative segments.
- Terminological Precision: Distinguish “interpretive adaptation” from “amendment” and “residency criteria” from “citizenship.”
- Non-Advocacy: Analytical framing emphasises institutional design and process mechanics rather than prescriptive outcomes.
- Source Hierarchy: Primary documents (the Constitution, Presidential Orders, Gazette notifications, judgments, parliamentary and Constituent Assembly debates) take precedence over official press releases, which take precedence over news reports and commentary. See Primary Source Index.
Neutrality Statement
- No position on contested questions: The site does not take a position on whether Article 370 should have been abrogated or restored, on statehood, or on the wider Kashmir dispute.
- Attribution: Contested claims are attributed to the person or institution making them (for example, “the Government stated…”, “the petitioners argued…”, “critics argued…”) rather than stated as fact.
- Multiple perspectives: Where official positions and those of petitioners, political parties, residents or international actors differ, the main positions are presented side by side; see Perspectives & Debates.
- Commentary labelled: Opinion and analytical pieces cited as further reading are identified as commentary, not as primary evidence.
5. Update Cadence
- Periodic Review: Pages are reviewed periodically for new judicial pronouncements, statutory changes and administrative orders relevant to the former special provisions. Each page shows a visible “Last updated” date so readers can judge how current it is.
- Trigger-Based: Interim updates if Supreme Court clarifications, statutory amendments, or domicile/land policy adjustments emerge.
- Change Logging: Material adjustments are reflected in the page’s visible “Last updated” date and, for policy pages, in a dated changelog note.
Corrections Policy
- How to report: Email the address in the Contact section with the page address, the section (anchor) concerned, and a source supporting the correction.
- Review: Each report is checked against primary sources before any change is made.
- Correction: Confirmed factual errors are corrected on the page and the page’s “Last updated” date is revised. Material corrections to dates, figures, holdings or attributions are not silently retrofitted into earlier narrative.
- Disputed interpretations: Where a report concerns a contested interpretation rather than a factual error, the relevant positions are attributed rather than one being adopted as fact.
Funding & Advertising
The site is funded by display advertising served through Google AdSense. Advertisements are selected and delivered by Google, not chosen by the site’s editor, and advertisers have no input into the site’s content. An advertisement appearing on a page is not an endorsement. For how advertising cookies work and how to opt out of personalised ads, see the Privacy Policy.
6. Attribution & Credits
Primary material relies on official constitutional texts, Supreme Court judgments, presidential orders, statutory instruments, parliamentary debates, and publicly accessible government releases. Secondary interpretive layering synthesises scholarly commentary and comparative federalism analysis.
